Agus Marto undergoes “fit-and-proper” test

Bank Indonesia (BI) governor candidate Agus Martowardojo is undergoing “fit-and-proper” testing with lawmakers on House of Representatives’ Commission XI overseeing banking.“I’ll just try to do my best,” Agus said after arriving at the House as quoted by Antara news agency.Lawmakers have been slated to make a final decision on Agus, who was rejected by the House the last time he was nominated for the job five years ago, at a meeting tomorrow night.Lawmaker Anna Mu’wanan said that Agus would likely pass muster this time. “During five years after he was rejected, there must have been new developments on his competency. There was a political factor behind the rejection. But now, Agus is a minister”.Gadjah Mada University economist Tony Prasetiantono previously offered a mixed opinion on the minister. “Agus has leadership ability and good skills to encourage markets. However, he is weak in macroeconomic and monetary issues.” (nai/ebf)
