Anas files an appeal

JAKARTA. Former Democratic Party chairman Anas Urbaningrum has filed an appeal against the Jakarta Corruption Court, which sentenced him to eight years in prison.

“With all due respect to the court and the Corruption Eradication Commission [KPK], Mas Anas has decided to use his rights to file an appeal,” Anas’ lawyer Handika Honggo Wongso said as quoted by tribunnews.com.

Handika said that his client decided to file the appeal because he felt the judges at the court ignored crucial evidence presented in the course of the trial.

The court’s judges sentenced Anas last week to eight years in prison and fined him Rp 300 million [U$25,095] for his role in the Hambalang sports complex graft case and other state projects.

The court found Anas guilty of corruption and money laundering.
