JAKARTA. State-owned airport operator Angkasa Pura (AP) II, which runs 13 airports in Indonesia’s western regions, has said it is supporting the government’s efforts to make the country’s avtur tariffs more competitive than other ASEAN countries.

“Obviously, we support more competitive avtur tariffs, because they can push national airline industry growth, especially to increase the competitiveness of both national airlines and domestic airports,” AP II commercial director Faik Fahmi said as quoted by Antara in Jakarta on Sunday.

He said a competitive avtur tariffs could directly increase the competitiveness of airports nationwide, including Soekarno-Hatta International Airport in Jakarta.

Faik said AP II did not have any intention to raise avtur prices in Soekarno-Hatta International Airport or other airports because it was not an added value for the company.

AP II and state-owned oil and gas company Pertamina, as an avtur supplier, have signed a concession agreement on airport avtur distribution.

Under the agreement, Pertamina will pay “throughput fees” to AP II to deliver avtur to parked aircraft because of facilities provided by the airport operator.

Faik said for every liter of avtur distributed, Pertamina would pay a throughput fee of Rp 33 (0.23 US cents) in Soekarno-Hatta International Airport and Rp 10 per liter in Kualanamu International Airport. Pertamina will pay Rp 5/ liter of avtur distributed in three airports, namely Sultan Mahmud Badaruddin II Palembang, Sultan Syarif Kasim II Pekanbaru and Halim Perdanakusuma, Jakarta.

“The throughput fee regulation is best practice in other international airports in countries across the world, which is based on the International Civil Aviation Organization [ICAO] 9082 Code on ICAO Policies on Charge for Airports and Air Navigation Services,” said Faik.

“The ‘throughput fee’ in Soekarno-Hatta International Airport is lower than other international airports,” he said.

Other AP II airports, which are not yet subject to the "throughput fee" regulation, are Depati Amir in Pangkalpinang, Husein Sastranegara in Bandung, Raja Haji Fisabilillah in Tanjung Pinang, Silangit in North Tapanuli, Sultan Iskandar Muda in Aceh, Sultan Thaha in Jambi and Supadio in Pontianak.
