JAKARTA. Acting National Police chief Comr. Gen. Badrodin Haiti has vowed to build solidity within the police force and improve its professionalism in maintaining security and order and enforcing the law.

“Several things require changes to improve internal solidity and professionalism within the police force,” he said in reply to questions raised by legislators at his confirmation hearing with House of Representatives Commission III on law on Thursday.

He said internal solidity was necessary so that the police carried out their tasks effectively and he would continue to improve police professionalism to clamp down on violations during their deployment in the field.

He also said the police needed a new regulation that allowed the police to control the spread of the Islamic State (IS) movement.

Badrodin said that IS was more dangerous than al-Qaeda, pointing out that it was a global threat because its members came from numerous countries.

He said the police would help the National Counterterrorism Agency (BNPT) fight IS and terrorist groups.

The House is scheduled to hold a plenary session to endorse the inauguration of Badrodin as new police chief. (rms)
