Bali ready for King Salman's extravagant holiday

JAKARTA. The extravagant official visit of King Salman bin Abdulaziz Al Saud will not stop in the capital, as the Saudi Arabian royal family has plans to holiday in Bali this weekend.

King Salman, who arrived in Jakarta on Wednesday along with 1,500 members of his entourage who are accompanying him during his month-long visit to several Asian countries, is set to spend five days in Bali, from March 4 to 9.

Not only a private car and private stairways, but the king has reportedly also brought along his private sofa and 80-inch television to be placed in the hotel room where he is set to stay, kompas.com has reported.

“The private stairways and the car have arrived in Bali. I was also informed that King Salman brought his Rp 17 billion [US$1,271,979] private sofa and his 80-inch television,” the chairman of Association of the Indonesia Tours and Travel Agencies, I Ketut Ardana, said on Wednesday.

Saudi Arabia has rented 45 trucks to transport King Salman’s private luggage, including other logistics, during their stay in Bali.

Ngurah Rai Customs and Excise chief Budi Harjanto has confirmed that the king’s private luggage and other logistics arrived on the island on Feb. 18, including the sofa and some food.

King Salman is the first Saudi Arabian king to visit Indonesia after King Faisal’s visit 47 years ago. Indonesia is his second destination in Asia before he travels to Japan, China, the Maldives and Jordan. His official visit in the capital will run from March 1 to 3. (mas/jun)
