Besides Discussing Border Issues, Jokowi Also Discusses This Matter with Xanana



KONTAN.CO.ID -  JAKARTA. President Joko Widodo conducted a series of bilateral meetings with several country leaders, including a bilateral meeting with the Prime Minister (PM) of Timor-Leste, Xanana Gusmao, at the Merdeka Palace, Jakarta, on Monday, September 4, 2023. 

Foreign Minister (FM) Retno Marsudi said, in the meeting, President Jokowi discussed the resolution of land boundaries and invited the government of Timor-Leste to establish an economic zone at the border of the two countries.

"The President conveyed that it is hoped that the land boundary can be resolved by the end of this year, and both leaders also agreed that economic cooperation, especially in the border area, is important to be enhanced," she said, Monday (4/9). 

Furthermore, Retno said that the PM of Timor-Leste appreciated Indonesia's support for Timor-Leste's ASEAN membership. 

"During the conversation, the President emphasized future support for capacity building in order to accelerate Timor-Leste's full membership in ASEAN," she continued.

Furthermore, the PM of Timor-Leste also appreciated Indonesia for being a source of world peace.

"PM Xanana Gusmao also said that Indonesia is the center of gravity of peace and is also an effective voice of peace," she said.

Also accompanying the President in the meeting were the Coordinating Minister for Political, Legal, and Security Affairs Mahfud Md., Foreign Minister Retno Marsudi, Minister of Agriculture Syahrul Yasin Limpo, and Cabinet Secretary Pramono Anung.
