BPS says May inflation stands at 0.07 percent

JAKARTA. The Central Statistics Agency (BPS) says that inflation rose by 0.07 percent in May, which in turn increased the consumer price index to 131.41.

The BPS had previously announced that 37 out of 66 surveyed municipalities in the archipelago suffered inflation in May. The highest overall inflation occurred in Pontianak, West Kalimantan with 0.93 percent, while the lowest rate was in Balikpapan, East Kalimantan at 0.04 percent.

"Inflation went up primarily due to the rising price indeces on food, beverages, cigarettes and tobacco commodities of 0.40 percent," BPS head Suryamin told a press conference in Jakarta on Friday.

Cumulatively speaking, inflation rose by 1.15 percent from January to May this year, while on a year-on-year basis, last month's inflation rose by 4.45 percent. (Hans David Tampubolon/ The Jakarta Post)
