Discounted tolls won’t apply on Idul Fitri peak days: Toll road association

KONTAN.CO.ID - JAKARTA. Toll road operators are offering 15 percent discounts on toll roads for Idul Fitri travelers, but the price cut won’t apply on the peak days of the holiday season.

While Idul Fitri is expected to fall on June 5, the discounts will be available only from May 27 to 29 and from June 10 to 12.

“The discounts are not granted on the peak days [to help ensure] traffic is well distributed, considering the high volume of traffic during the Lebaran exodus,” Indonesian Toll Road Operators Association (ATI) chairwoman Desi Arryani said in Jakarta on Friday.

She argued that offering the discount only on certain days would help ease congestion on the peak days by giving people an incentive to travel on the other days.

Desi expressed hope that people would consider arranging their travel plans accordingly, both when leaving the major cities and when returning.

The Transportation Ministry expects this year’s so-called exodus to involve 22.83 million people, most of whom would travel on roads.

Desi said toll road operators would provide better services during the exodus period to make journeys safe and convenient for road users. She also reminded the toll road users to have adequate funds on their toll road cards before setting off.
