JAKARTA. Award-winning director Garin Nugroho is set to collaborate with renowned composer Rahayu Supanggah in a silent film as part of the former's 35th anniversary celebration in the film industry. Dubbed Setan Jawa (Javanese Devil) and said to be accompanied with a live gamelan orchestra, the film is slated to premier on Sept. 3 to 4 at Gedung Teater Jakarta in Taman Ismail Marzuki, Central Jakarta, with ticket prices starting from Rp 250,000 (US$18). Setan Jawa combines Javanese mythology with contemporary dance that is inspired by Friedrich Wilhelm Murnau classic work Nosferatu ( 1922 ). Set in the early of 20th century, the black-and-white film follows Setio, a poor young man from a village, who falls in love with Asih, a princess from a Javanese aristocratic family.
