Rocket Internet’s online food delivery service foodpanda has shut up shop in Indonesia after losing its competition with recently flourishing app-based taxi-motorbike services, an executive of the company confirmed. “Through the notice, I officially announce foodpanda’s decision to cease all food activities in Indonesia on a permanent basis,” Victor Delannoy, managing director foodpanda Indonesia, said in a statement published on its website on September 30. Foodpanda launched its Indonesian operation in 2012 in Jakarta and since then has partnered with thousands of restaurants to offer convenience and fast ordering to hundreds of thousands hungry customers, according to the statement.
