Garuda is not afraid of Flynas



JAKARTA. PT Garuda Indonesia Tbk (GIAA) is not daunted by the presence of foreign airlines opened direct flights from Jeddah, Saudi Arabia, to Jakarta. Currently, Garuda is the only local airline which flies to the Middle East. Despite increasingly fierce competition, Garuda remains optimistic in reaching Hajj and Umrah market share of the domestic market. "Passengers like Garuda because of the nuances of local services," Pujobroto, Vice President of Communications Garuda Indonesia said to KONTAN, Sunday (22/2). According to Pujobroto, for Garuda, the presence of competitors and competition is a natural for a business. "In fact, the competition will encourage local players in the aviation industry to become more creative in innovating services. For the Jakarta-Jeddah route, Garuda has prepared their newest aircraft, the Boeing 777-300 ER. "The aircraft offers first class services, such as internet connection via WiFi and chef on board. Garuda also, added Pujo, do not worry about the price competition that will be created from the growing number of players coming into one of these fat routes. He quotes an unnamed survey, that in the aviation industry, ticket prices are not everything. "Passengers are willing to pay a little more expensive, as long as the service and promptness get a better flight schedules," he said. Flynas, Saudi Arabian airline, will offer flights from Jeddah to Jakarta and Surabaya in April.  Seeing the condition, Garuda will open similar direct flights from other cities, such as Makassar, Medan and Denpasar.
