Gita set to lead Barindo

JAKARTA. Trade Minister Gita Wirjawan will take over leadership of Barindo in preparation for the Democratic Party's presidential candidate convention.

Barindo, a Democratic Party mass organization, was established by former generals who supported President Susilo Bambang Yudhoyono.

The organization backs Gita's participation in the convention and his presidential aspirations.

"I am ready to join the Democratic Party convention," Gita said after addressing a Barindo leadership meeting for the Sumatra and West Kalimantan region at Goodway Hotel in Batam, Riau Islands.

Previously, Gita had attended similar events in Magelang, Central Java and Jakarta.

During the leadership meeting, Gita talked about the "Gangnam Style" phenomenon popularized by South Korean singer Psy, and how it could be used to resurrect Indonesia's economic potential. (The Jakarta Post)
