Govt allocates Rp 6.6t for NTT, focusing on 5 sectors



JAKARTA. The government will allocate Rp 6.6 trillion from the 2011 state budget for East Nusa Tenggara (NTT), focusing on five sectors to grow the province’s potentials, a senior minister says.Coordinating Economic Minister Hatta Rajasa said Monday that the five sectors include salt, livestock, seaweed, environment, and tourism.“First, NTT will be the center of salt in the country with 5,000 hectares of land ready to be utilized. Second, NTT will also be the center of livestock, we will grow the sector. Third, NTT is also a sea area so we could grow seaweed.“Fourth, reforesting because NTT is sandalwood area and, fifth, tourism,” Hatta told reporters after a coordination meeting at his office in Jakarta on speeding up development in NTT.According to Hatta, the public works ministry alone will set aside Rp 1.4 trillion, or 21 percent of the total Rp 6.6 trillion budget, for infrastructure projects in the province.“NTT has lower-than-average unemployment rate, but the poverty rate is high. The NTT projects are expected to lower poverty rate and add more jobs. The people’s involvement must be assured,” he added.On Feb. 2, the President will conduct a cabinet meeting with his administration’s ministers to speed up development projects in NTT, Hatta said.
