Indofood Said All Instant Noodle Products Meet Food Safety Standards

KONTAN.CO.ID - JAKARTA. PT Indofood CBP Sukses Makmur Tbk (ICBP) has responded to allegations of the presence of a cancer-causing substance, ethylene oxide (EtO), in Indomie Chicken Special instant noodles seasoning found by the Taipei Department of Health.

ICBP's management stated that all instant noodle products produced by the company in Indonesia have been processed in accordance with food safety standards from the Codex Standard for Instant Noodles and standards that comply with the provisions of the Indonesian Food and Drug Authority (BPOM).

"Our instant noodle products have obtained Indonesian National Standard Certification (SNI) and are produced in production facilities certified with international standards. ICBP has been exporting instant noodle products to various countries around the world for more than 30 years," said Taufik Wiraatmadja, Director of ICBP in a press release on the Indofood website.

Taufik added that ICBP always ensures that its products have met the regulations and food safety requirements applicable in Indonesia and various countries where Indofood Group's instant noodle products are marketed. "We want to emphasize that as stated by BPOM, Indomie instant noodle products are safe for consumption," he said.

Previously, BPOM through its press release stated that Taiwan does not allow the use of EtO in food products. However, Indonesia has set the Maximum Residue Limit (MRL) of 2-Chloro Ethanol (2-CE) at 85 ppm, while the 2-CE content in the instant noodle sample in Taiwan was only 0.34 ppm, which is still far below the 2-CE MRL in Indonesia and several other countries such as the United States and Canada.

"In Indonesia, instant noodle products are safe for consumption because they have met the safety and quality requirements of the products before being circulated," wrote BPOM on Thursday (27/4).

BPOM still ordered producers, including ICBP, to maintain the safety, quality, and nutrition of Indomie Chicken Special products that are produced and exported and ensure that the products have met the requirements of the export destination country.
