JAKARTA. The government expressed its condemnation of North Korea's recent long-range rocket launch and demanded the Kim Jong Un comply with the United Nation (UN) Security Council to prevent escalating tension among other countries.

"Indonesia truly regrets that North Korea proceeded with the long-range rocket launch," the Foreign Ministry said as quoted by kompas.com on Sunday.

North Korea had violated a UN Security Council resolution and by creating tension in the region, the ministry said.

The government also urged the leader of North Korea to respect and comply with the resolution and refrain from other provocative acts.

North Korea defied international warnings and launched a long-range rocket on Sunday that they consider part of a peaceful space program.

The launch followed North Korea's widely disputed claim last month to have tested a hydrogen bomb.

The UN has condemned the rocket launch.

Kim Jong Un has overseen two of the country’s four nuclear tests and three of its long-range rocket tests since taking over power after the death of his father, dictator Kim Jong Il, in late 2011.

The Jan. 6 nuclear test led to another push at the UN to tighten sanctions. North Korea in 2013 also conducted a nuclear test and then unnerved the international community by orchestrating an escalating campaign of bombast, including threats to fire nuclear missiles at the US and Seoul.
