Indonesia posts smaller trade deficit in December



KONTAN.CO.ID - JAKARTA. Indonesia's trade deficit narrowed in December, following its largest trade gap in seven months in the prior month, the statistics bureau said on Wednesday.

The trade deficit in December was $30 million, the bureau said, compared with a $470 million deficit that analysts in a Reuters poll had expected. The deficit in November was $1.39 billion, the widest since April 2019.

Exports rose 1.28% in December on a yearly basis to $14.47 billion, compared with the poll's prediction of a 3.03% drop.

December imports were worth $14.5 billion, 5.62% down from a year earlier, which was slower than the poll's 6.30% drop forecast.
