JAKARTA. Indonesia is set to launch a campaign at the 71st UN General Assembly later this month to secure a seat as a non-permanent member of the UN Security Council (UNSC) for 2019 to 2020, the Foreign Ministry has said. UNSC non-permanent membership was important for Indonesia to be able to promote world peace and stability because many global security issues are initially discussed at the UNSC, Foreign Ministry spokesperson Arrmanatha Nasir said. Vice President Jusuf Kalla is scheduled to attend the UN General Assembly in New York from Sept. 19 to 29, where he is set to launch the campaign for Indonesia's nomination for the UNSC non-permanent member seat. Indonesia is eying a seat that will be left vacant by Kazakhstan, which will serve as a UNSC member from 2017 to 2018, representing the Asia-Pacific region.
