KONTAN.CO.ID - JAKARTA. Indonesia's Coordinating Minister for Economic Affairs, Airlangga Hartarto, has revealed that the country's digital economy, currently valued at US$ 90 billion, is projected to rise to US$ 130 billion by 2025.

This aligns with the potential growth of the digital economy in the ASEAN region, which has a population of approximately 600 million. 

With the implementation of the Digital Economy Framework Agreement (DEFA), the value of the digital economy in the ASEAN region by 2030, initially estimated by various study institutions to reach US$ 1 trillion, is expected to increase to as much as US$ 2 trillion.

On the other hand, Hartarto mentioned that in addition to cyber security issues in the use of digital technology, the availability of digital infrastructure is also a key issue in improving internet network availability.

"I see that cyber security issues will always be a problem in the digital economy. With its characteristics as an archipelagic country, Indonesia cannot solely rely on fibre optic as the solution for providing internet networks throughout the country," Hartarto said.

When asked about the purpose of several global technology company CEOs' visits to Indonesia, Minister Hartarto stated that Indonesia has taken strategic steps by making the digital economy the next main engine of economic growth. 

“Indonesia is home to 10 unicorns and 2 decacorns,” he said.
