JAKARTA. The Jakarta administration may terminate its cooperation agreement with PT Godang Tua and PT Navigat Organic Energy Indonesia ( NOEI ) for managing the Bantar Gebang Integrated Waste Treatment Area in Bekasi by the end of this month after PricewaterhouseCoopers ( PwC ) issues its report on the deal.

The city administration is now awaiting the audit results from PwC, which was hired to look into the cooperation agreement between the administration and Godang Tua and between the administration and NOEI before officially ending the cooperation.

“In late May, we hope that we have obtained the audit results from PWC. If the audit results recommend us to break off the cooperation, the governor will make a decision and the sanitation agency will take over waste management,” Isnawa Adji, Head of Jakarta Cleanliness Agency told thejakartapost.com on Thursday.

Previously, the Supreme Audit Agency ( BPK ) also conducted an audit of the cooperation agreement. The agency said the administration lost RP 378 billion from a deal with PT Godang Tua and NOEI because both companies did not use the sanitary landfill through a Gasification Landfill-Anaerobic Digestion ( GALFAD ) method to produce electricity as set in the agreement.

The Jakarta administration assigned the independent auditor after both companies threatened to sue the city. The companies had hired Yusril Ihza Mahendra as their lawyer.

Isnawa claims that the sanitation agency will be ready to manage the garbage in case the administration officially stops cooperating with Godang Tua and NOEI.

“We will treat the garbage in Bantar Gebang with standard procedures and improve the disposal management process. However, we haven’t planned to implement the Galfad method yet because it needs a large amount of money,” Isnawa said.

The termination of the cooperation agreement with Godang Tua and NOEI will save around RP 300 billion in the city’s budget. Currently, the administration has to pay Rp 133,000 for a ton of waste that is processed by the operators while the city on average produces about 6,600 to 6,700 tons of waste per day.
