Jakarta to receive two MRT trains in March

KONTAN.CO.ID - JAKARTA. Two MRT trains will be delivered from Japan and arrive in the capital next month, according to mass rapid transit developer PT MRT Jakarta.

The trains were tested at Nippon Sharyo’s Toyokawa Plant in Japan, which was witnessed MRT president director William Sabandar.

“What is most important is to ensure that the components work perfectly based on the required technical specifications,” William said in a statement. “We also tested the trains’ performance on a track located within the factory.”

The trains will be delivered from Toyokawa Plant to Toyohashi city port next week and then shipped to Indonesia on March 7. They are predicted to arrive at Tanjung Priok port in North Jakarta by the end of March.

They are the first MRT trains to be sent to Jakarta.

William said he was satisfied with the trains as all of their features worked well and met his expectation. He hoped that Nippon Sharyo would be able to maintain the same level of quality for the next shipment of MRT trains.

MRT Jakarta plans to operate 16 trains, each of which will comprise six cars. (Winda A. Charmila)
