JAKARTA. Corruption Eradication Commission (KPK) has confirmed that it is tracking graft fugitive Neneng Sri Wahyuni, the wife of graft defendant Muhammad Nazaruddin, following an alert from Interpol.

The KPK is now intensifying its coordination with the National Police over information about Neneng's whereabouts.

"We have received Interpol information from the police. We are still communicating with the police to follow up on the information," KPK spokesman Johan Budi said at a press conference on Thursday.

The 30-year-old woman is a suspect in the botched purchase of solar power equipment at the Manpower and Transmigration Ministry in 2008, in which her company allegedly acted as a proxy to rig the bid.

Along with Nazaruddin, she ran dozens of companies under a holding firm called Permai Group, which they allegedly used as proxies to win government projects that were later subcontracted to bigger companies in exchange for fees.

Nazaruddin, a former lawmaker from President Susilo Bambang Yudhoyono's Democratic Party, also allegedly acted as a go-between in government projects between the ministries and members of the House of Representatives in getting the funding for the projects.

Both Nazaruddin and Neneng separately fled the country in May last year.

Nazaruddin was arrested in Colombia in last August and is being tried over a different alleged bribery case. He is also a suspect of money laundering in another graft case.

During the press conference, KPK declined to disclose Neneng whereabouts.

Police and the immigration office have previously hinted that Neneng was in Thailand.

The immigration office recorded that Neneng entered Malaysia on July 25 from Colombia, after she departed with her husband. (Ina Parlina, The Jakarta Post)
