KPK to announce Sumber Waras case results

JAKARTA. The Corruption Eradication Commission (KPK) will soon announce the results of its investigation into alleged irregularities in land procurement in West Jakarta by the Jakarta city administration, known as the Sumber Waras case.

KPK chairman Agus Rahardjo said on Monday his institution had concluded the case in which Governor Basuki “Ahok” Tjahaja Purnama had been questioned as a witness.

“The decision may not fulfill the hope of a certain party, but it will fulfill the hopes of other parties,” he added.

Agus, however, declined to reveal the KPK's conclusions, saying it would announce them during a meeting with the House of Representatives.

Ahok was reluctant to comment on the issue. “I do not know. You should ask the KPK and the lawmakers. I am just waiting for the results,” said Ahok at City Hall on Tuesday as reported by kompas.com.

The KPK questioned Ahok on April 12. The KPK investigation was based on a report of the Supreme Audit Agency (BPK) about the city's acquisition of 3.7 hectares of land adjacent to the Sumber Waras Hospital in West Jakarta for a cardiac and cancer center.

The BPK said the price had been inflated and the land should have been purchased for the same taxable value of property (NJOP) as surrounding buildings.

The city administration purchased the land in 2014 for Rp 775.69 billion, while according to the BPK report the city could have paid Rp 564.35 billion.

Ahok denied any wrongdoing in the land procurement.
