Latinusa still focuses in food sector*

JAKARTA. Despite numbers of producers released new food and beverages brands along 2016, demands on tinplate raw material tend to stagnant, due to unrecovered economy.

Data from PT Pelat Timah Nusantara Tbk (Latinusa) show that the needs for tinplate in 2014 were 226,391 ton per year. Corporate Secretary of Latinusa Wuri Wuryani said that national tinplate demand in 2016 is relatively stagnant at the number. Most of the demands come from food industry.

Recently, Latinusa has 154,000 metric ton per year of production capacity, or relatively similar to the last year’s. Under this condition, the issuer, which is listed under the code of NIKL, has not yet planned to launch business expansion in this year.

Latinusa itself claimed to have adjusted its tinplate price in order to be competitive with similar import product. However, Wuri Wuryani did not specify the price.

By adjusting the price, Latinusa expects to reap significant profits by the end of the year.

During the first semester of 2016, Latinusa booked a US$736,948 of profits, while in 2016 the company suffered a US$6 million loses.

Actually, the company has also targeted other sectors, such as paint and battery industries. Furthermore, the company targets to expand their markets to India, South East Asian countries, and Australia. (Translator: Muhammad Farid)
