Minimum wage to be announced Tuesday

JAKARTA. Acting governor Basuki “Ahok” Tjahaja Purnama said on Monday he had approved the new minimum wage, setting it at Rp 2.7 million.

“The new minimum wage will be announced tomorrow [Tuesday],” he told reporters after attending the Muhammadiyah Students Association (IPM) congress in Ciracas, East Jakarta, on Monday evening.

The decision was made after a divided minimum wage forum proposed two options, with the employers proposing Rp 2.53 million and the workers union Rp 3.5 million for the new minimum wage to the acting governor.

Ahok said the new minimum wage should take effect immediately.

“There should be no delay in applying the new wage,” he said.
