MPR deputy speaker files for tax amnesty

JAKARTA. People’s Consultative Assembly (MPR) Deputy Speaker Oesman Sapta Odang filed for the tax amnesty at the headquarters of the Directorate General of Taxation in Jakarta on Thursday.

Oesman told reporters that besides declaring assets, he also repatriated funds stashed overseas. He refused to disclose the figure.

“Both of them [declaration and repatriation]. This is a great program that we need to support,” Oesman said at a press conference accompanied by Taxation Director General Ken Dwijugeasteadi and other top tax officials.

He urged other negligent taxpayers to participate in the program. He noted that there are consequences for those who don’t play ball.

“There are many recalcitrant taxpayers who have not filed for tax amnesty. Beware!” he said, adding that taxpayers needed to understand that funds from the tax amnesty were important for developing the country’s infrastructure.
