KONTAN.CO.ID - JAKARTA. Deputy Secretary General of the Indonesian Ulama Council (MUI) Zaitun Rasmin said the MUI was reviewing proposals related to Player Unknown's Battlegrounds (PUBG) video game. The MUI will consider the results of research in issuing fatwas about games.

"We will review first. Input from the community is important for the MUI," Zaitun at the MUI Building, Jakarta, Friday (22/3), as written by Antara.

PUBG game is one of the war-themed virtual games played on smartphones. The participants play this game through the internet network.

Some elements of society consider the PUBG game to trigger radicalism because of practicing war and murder. The controversy about the game came to light after some people thought this game was similar to the action of mosque shooters in Christchurch, New Zealand.

Zaitun can't provide certainty when the MUI will issue a fatwa related to PUBG. This policy depends on the data that goes to the Research and Research Commission with the MUI Fatwa Commission.

Zaitun said the MUI was not only issuing fatwas about food and drinks. Some things that can form lousy behavior can also be the basis for issuing fatwas.

"Islam can ban something because of its substance and its effects," he said.

"The Qur'an says do not approach adultery, why? Because it will plunge into adultery. If this game plunges someone into murder, it is prohibited. Of course, MUI will examine it further," he said.
