JAKARTA. Months after the global launch in London last October, Nokia Indonesia will release the first smartphones using the Windows Phone operating system, the Lumia 800 and Lumia 710, in Jakarta on Feb. 17.

The launch of the Lumia series could tighten competition in the local smartphone market, which BlackBerry, Android and Apple’s iPhone currently dominate.

“We are proud to introduce these two smartphones to Indonesia. They will be followed by other products,” Nokia Indonesia product manager Anvid Erdian said on Thursday.

In anticipation of strong public demand, Nokia Indonesia has given consumers a chance to pre-order online to become the first Lumia owners in the country, Anvid said.

Gadget freaks can also visit Nokia Lumia Stores in cities across the country, including Jakarta (at the Senayan City, Taman Anggrek, Kelapa Gading, Grand Indonesia, Emporium Pluit and Central Park malls), Surabaya (Galaxy Mall and Grand City) and Makassar (Mal Panakukang).

At the stores, consumers can experience the high-tech features of the Lumia smartphones, which runs on Windows.

Among the Lumia’s features are the People Hub, which allow users to connect with their contacts through various media such as Facebook, Twitter, LinkedIn or short messaging services.
