JAKARTA. Culture and Elementary and Secondary Education Minister Anies Baswedan announced on Monday that 10 high schools and vocational schools in Papua had successfully logged in to start the first computer-based national exam.

"We received information that they were able to log in successfully. In Papua there are nine vocational schools and one high school taking the computer-based national exam this year," he said while inspecting SMKN 28 middle school in South Jakarta.

"So far there haven't been any complaints."

According to Anies, 3.4 percent of all high schools and vocational schools in Papua were taking the computer-based exam.

In total, 585 high schools and vocational schools, or 2.4 percent of all schools nationwide, have qualified to take the country's first-ever computer-based national exam.

Students taking the exam will take it in three shifts due to limited computer resources. Those taking the paper-based exam will still take the tests simultaneously.

More than 2.8 million high school and vocational school students will take the national exam starting Monday. This year will also be the first time the national exam results will not determine a student's graduation. Instead, graduation will be determined by criteria individual by individual schools.
