Palembang mayor ready to go to KPK

PALEMBANG. The mayor of Palembang, Romi Herton, said on Wednesday that he was ready to go to the Corruption Eradication Commission (KPK) after being named a graft suspect.

“We are finishing some family matters. We will go to Jakarta tomorrow,” Romi, who was accompanied by his wife, told reporters after voting in the presidential election, in Palembang on Wednesday.

According to a KPK summons, Romi will be questioned on Thursday over his suspected involvement in alleged bribery during the Palembang mayoral election last year, connected to corruption convict and former Constitutional Court chief justice Akil Mochtar.

He promised to obey the law and tell the truth to the KPK.

The Jakarta Corruption Court recently handed Akil a life sentence for soliciting bribes from politically wired Banten businessman Tubagus Chaeri “Wawan” Wardana, the younger brother of suspended Banten governor Ratu Atut Chosiyah.

The court sentenced Wawan to five years behind bars in the case.
