PLN kicks off tender for Java power plant

JAKARTA. State-owned electricity firm PT PLN has opened a tender for the development of a 2,000 megawatt (MW) independent power producer (IPP) project.

The power plant would be located in Bojonegoro, Banten, the company said on Tuesday.

“Participants of the tender should have business, technical, financial and legal qualifications. Unlike previous acceleration projects, this project involves no guarantee from the government,” PLN said in a written statement.

The 2x1,000 MW coal fired power plant will used land that has already been prepared by PLN. The company expects to break ground on the project in the first semester of 2016 and is targeted to be completed by 2020.

The 2,000 MW power plant is expected to help the country provide more electricity, particularly in Java. Power demand on the country’s main island grows about 6.7 percent per year.
