PPP politician condemns attack on office

JAKARTA. Djafar Alkatiri, a politician from the United Development Party (PPP), condemned on Wednesday a recent attack on a mosque inside the party’s headquarters in Jakarta.

A group of people calling themselves supporters of embattled party chairman Muhammad Romahurmuziy appeared on the premises on Tuesday afternoon.

Djafar questioned the motive of the Romahurmuziy supporters’ attack amid a leadership dispute within the party, which is in the process of being resolved at the Jakarta Administrative Court.

“What and who is behind [Romahurmuziy]? Who participated in the attack? This is embarrassing. We think what he did is embarrassing,” said Djafar at the party’s headquarters in Jakarta as quoted by okezone.com.

He said Romahurmuziy had been reported to the police for the attack.

The party split into two factions after a rift during the presidential election. Romahurmuziy, the leader of the party’s pro-government faction, has been supported by the Law and Human Rights Ministry, while the opposition faction, led by Djan Faridz, is trying to challenge the ministerial decision.

The case is still under investigation and the allegations leveled against Romahurmuziy are yet to be proven.
