JAKARTA. The sole agents of motorcycles are preparing to produce motorcycles with the standard emission of Euro 4 to meet the standard of export to European countries. Starting from 1 January 2017, European countries will apply the standard emission of Euro 4.

One of the producers that have been ready to comply with Euro 4 standard is PT Suzuki Indomobil Sales. “We will start produce (motorcycles with) Euro 4 standard in 2017,” said General Manager of Two Wheels Sales Marketing of PT Suzuki Indomobil Yohan Yahya.

Aside of Suzuki Indomobil, Yamaha is also preparing to produce motorcycles with the standard emission of Euro 4. “Yamaha is ready to export the motorcycles with Euro 4 standard, mainly to Europe’s markets,” said Assistant General Manager Marketing of PT Yamaha Indonesia Motor Manufacturing Mohammad Masykur.

Masykur said that the implementation of emission standard of Euro 4 will not reduce the exports of Yamaha to Europe. However, the price of motorcycles with Euro 4 standard is higher than the motorcycles with Euro 3 standard, due to the increases in production costs. However, Masykur has not specified the exact price. To date, Yamaha has exported the motorcycles with the types of Nmax, R25, and MT25.

As information, the Association of Indonesian Motorcycles Industry (AISI) estimates that the requirement of Euro 4 standard will not affect to the performance of Indonesia’s motorcycles exports. “In terms of technical, Indonesian manufacturers has no issue with Euro 4 standard,” Chairman of AISI Gunadi Sindhuwinata told KONTAN, Tuesday (27/12).

According to Gunadi, the target of motorcycles exports has increased from 360,000 units to 400,000 units, with the export destinations of Middle East, Asia, and Eastern Europe. Meanwhile, Germany, Great Britain, and Netherlands have become the export destinations since the recent two years. “European countries are still promising export destinations,” Gunadi said.

Regulation on Euro 4 However, producers will likely be struggling to sell the motorcycles with Euro 4 standard in domestic market, since the domestic markets have not provided the fuel with the standard of Euro 4. “Pertamina (State Owned Oil Company) will just produce the fuel with Euro 4 standard in 2023,” said Director of Maritime, Transportation and Defense Equipment Industry at Ministry of Industry Yan Sibarang Tandiele.

However, Yan claimed that the government is preparing the road map to implement Euro 4 standard in Indonesia. “The road map is being processed at the Ministry of Environment and Forestry. We expect that it may be implemented in 2019,” Yan said.
