RI has interest in global discussion at G-20

JAKARTA. President Susilo Bambang Yudhoyono said Indonesia had an interest in the discussion on the global economy at the G20 Summit, set to be held in Russia in the first week of September.“Whatever we are currently working on at the domestic level, including the economic package issued to contain economic pressures we are dealing with, will not be immune from what has been happening on a global level,” said the President in Jakarta on Sunday, as quoted by Antara news agency. He was speaking before departing to Kazakhstan, which was the first of his series of official state visits in three countries, including Poland and Russia.Yudhoyono said he would use the G20 meeting as a chance to understand about both what was currently going on at the global level and opinions of the world leaders on the current global economic policy. He said further that this year’s G20 Summit in Russia was not less important than the forum’s first and second summits in Washington and London, which were held in 2008 and 2009 respectively.“The world’s economy is facing new problems. Our country is one of those who are affected by the problems. Our economy is also facing new pressures,” Yudhoyono said. The President said current pressures on the national economy were not only triggered by internal factors but also influenced by external factors.“The G20 forum is the most appropriate forum, based on my opinion and experience, to collectively discuss what should be carried out by the all countries to make sure that the post 2008 and 2009 crisis-global economic recovery can run well, instead of putting us in a difficult situation like the one that happened five years ago,” said Yudhoyono.
