SBY, Obama to hold bilateral meeting



JAKARTA. President Susilo Bambang Yudhoyono and US President Barack Obama are scheduled to hold a bilateral meeting on the sidelines of the ASEAN and East Asia Summits in Nusa Dua, Bali, on Friday, the presidential press bureau says.

The meeting is scheduled to take place at 5:40 p.m. at the Uluwatu 1 Room, Bali Nusa Dua Convention Center, and is scheduled to run for one hour.

On the same day, Yudhoyono is also scheduled to lead a trilateral meeting with Obama and ASEAN Secretary-General Surin Pitsuwan at 4:30 p.m.


The trilateral meeting will discuss the ASEAN-US cooperation, including the establishment of the ASEAN-US Eminent Person Group.

ASEAN and the US plan to focus on political reform in Myanmar, the establishment of nuclear-free zone in ASEAN, as well as on the eradication of terrorism.

Both parties will also talk about global economic recovery and food and energy security, as well as millennium development goal achievements and efforts to reduce the economic gaps between ASEAN member countries, Antara news agency reported. (The Jakarta Post)
