Secure gas supply urged for Cirebon-Semarang

JAKARTA. An analyst from the ReforMiner Institute, Komaidi Notonegoro, has asked the government to guarantee the availability of natural gas supply for Cirebon-Semarang transmission pipelines.

The pipeline will be developed by design and construction management service PT Rekayasa Industri (Rekind).

“The special-right owner of the Cirebon-Semarang transmission pipeline has been decided; so, the government has to be responsible and consistent in providing the gas supply,” Komaidi said on Sunday as quoted by Antara.

Rekind has returned its special right over the pipeline to the government, following a lack of gas supply after it obtained the right via the Downstream Oil and Gas Regulatory Agency (BPH Migas) head decree on March 21, 2006.

The reversion was revealed in a letter dated April 4, which was sent by Rekind president director M. Ali Suharsono to agency chief Andy Noorsaman Sommeng.

Komaidi said he agreed to the government’s plan to supply Cirebon-Semarang gas from a floating storage regasification unit (FSRU) in the sea north of Semarang, Central Java. “However, the government should not escape from its responsibility to provide the gas supply [from the FSRU Central Java] as needed,” he went on.
