KONTAN.CO.ID - JAKARTA. PT Segar Kumala Indonesia Tbk (BUAH), a prominent importer and wholesaler of fruits and vegetables, also known as SKI, is aiming to import more than 114,000 tons of fruit.

For context, in 2023, the company imported 114,000 tons of fruit. Meanwhile, in 2022, the corporation recorded a fruit import of 83,000 tons. 

Renny Lauren, the CEO of Segar Kumala Indonesia, stated that BUAH has yet to determine the exact target for fruit imports. This is due to the company's ongoing assessment of the conditions in the Red Sea and global geopolitics.

"However, we hope to exceed the 2023 realization of around 114,000 tons," said Renny during a Public Expose presentation on Thursday (2/5). 

For your information, BUAH imports fresh fruit products from Asian countries such as China (around 66%), Australia (5.7%), and Thailand (7.4%) with the best quality and competitive prices, pre-researched by the BUAH Purchasing Team. The fresh fruits still dominating imports are apples, grapes, and pears. 

In addition to focusing on the quality of fresh fruit, BUAH also implements various other strategies such as expanding branch offices and new cold storage warehouses in Palembang, South Sumatra. Palembang is the 14th branch overall, and the third on Sumatra Island.

Most recently, in April 2024, the addition of new branches in Pekanbaru and Samarinda has been completed with a capacity of 400 tons.

As a result, BUAH now has a total of 16 branches in Indonesia.

The fruit distribution company has also allocated a capital expenditure (capital expenditure/capex) of IDR 16 billion.

This capex is allocated for the opening of new cold storage, the addition of refrigerated vehicle fleets, and the provision of office equipment.

Specifically, the capex for establishing a cold storage warehouse is around IDR 10 billion, the purchase of refrigerated vehicles is IDR 4 billion, and the rest is for office inventory. 

"As of the first quarter of 2024, we have only used 10%," she explained. 

With these well-prepared strategies, the company is targeting a fresh revenue of IDR 2 trillion. In the first quarter, it has already secured IDR 465 billion with a net profit of IDR 15.4 billion.

The hope is that BUAH can also increase its net profit by about 50% in 2024, or to IDR 48 billion. This is believed to be achievable with the ongoing branch expansion and fruit imports throughout the year.
