Setya to testify in e-ID graft trial

KONTAN.CO.ID - JAKARTA. The trial of the e-ID graft case is scheduled to continue on Monday with seven witnesses to be presented at the Jakarta Corruption Court, including House of Representatives Speaker and Golkar Party chairman Setya Novanto.

The hearing is expected to be Setya's first public appearance should he fulfil the subpoena after winning a pretrial motion at the South Jakarta District Court on Sept. 29 that resulted in the removal of his graft suspect status in the case.

Monday's hearing is held for defendant And Agustinus aka Andi Narogong, a businessman who is alleged to have embezzled a portion of the Rp 5.9 trillion (US$437 million) project funds.

Apart from Setya, the court is also set to hear testimony from former home minister Gamawan Fauzi and current Central Java Governor Ganjar Pranowo.

In the indictments of former Home Ministry officials Irman and Sugiharto, Gamawan was alleged to have accepted Rp 50 million and $4.5 million. It was mentioned the money was allegedly delivered in stages.

Meanwhile, Ganjar, who served on House Commission II overseeing home affairs, is alleged to have received $1.2 million in bribes in connection with the e-ID procurement project. (ebf)
