Starting February 14, Foreign Tourists to Bali Must Pay a Levy of IDR 150,000



KONTAN.CO.ID - JAKARTA. The Bali Provincial Government will impose a levy of IDR 150,000 for foreign tourists vacationing in Bali. 

The Minister of Tourism and Creative Economy, Sandiaga Uno, said this levy aims to implement sustainable tourism. Specifically, the collected levy will be used for waste management and cultural preservation in Bali. 

"This will be prepared thoroughly because its benefits are for waste management and cultural preservation. We must not let it be collected but have no benefits," said Sandi, Wednesday (7/2). 


Sandiaga said that the Ministry of Tourism and Creative Economy, along with the Bali Provincial Government and the Bali Tourism Office, are refining the mechanism for implementing the levy, which will begin on February 14, 2024. 

The levy process is expected to be digitalized to facilitate the payment process and not burden foreign tourists. 

"The system will be that before departure it will be done through digital media, and they are directed in practice not to burden tourists in terms of the complexity of the payment process," explained Sandiaga.

The imposition of this tax on foreign tourists is regulated in the Bali Governor Regulation Number 36 of 2023, which aims to protect the culture and natural environment on the Island of the Gods. 

"This Governor's Regulation has regulated the obligation for foreign tourists who travel to Bali by air, sea, and land," said the Governor of Bali Province, Wayan Koster. 

Wayan said that Law Number 15 of 2023 about Bali Province mandates the Bali Provincial Government to implement a levy policy for foreign tourists. 

This is then regulated in the Bali Provincial Regional Regulation Number 6 of 2023 about Levies for Tourists for the Protection of Culture and Natural Environment of Bali. 

He mentioned, the levy for foreign tourists is expected to protect and advance Balinese culture, carry out culturally based Bali tourism management, and build quality public transportation infrastructure and facilities.
