JAKARTA. Jakarta-owned bus operator PT Transportasi Jakarta ( Transjakarta ) extended on Thursday its commuter bus operations to Tangerang city, an official has said.

“Starting this morning, Transjakarta will operate commuter buses to Tangerang with a fare of Rp 3,500 ( 25 US cents ),” said Jakarta Transportation Agency head Andri Yaansyah in Jakarta on Thursday as reported by tribunnews.com.

Tangerang is Jakarta’s a neighboring city in Banten province.

The operation of the 15 commuter buses will be implemented in stages, starting with two of 10 routes that have been agreed to by the Jakarta and Tangerang administrations, said Andri, adding that his office had received a permit from the Transportation Ministry.

Public demand has been quite high, therefore the buses have started full operations without a trial period, said Andri.

Eight buses will operate from 5 a.m. until 10 p.m. serving the Poris Plawad bus terminal route in Cipondoh, to Kebon Nanas toll gate—stopping at Tomang toll gate - Semanggi – Senayan traffic circle in South Jakarta.

Meanwhile, seven buses will serve the Poris Plawad bus terminal route – to Kebon Nanas toll gate—stopping at the Tomang toll gate – Pasar Baru in Central Jakarta.

Transjakarta has also operated commuter buses to serve residents in Jakarta’s two neighboring cities in West Java – Bekasi and Depok. (Bambang Nurbianto)
