Donald Trump’s protectionism is potentially to reduce foreign direct investment potentials to Indonesia, on the grounds that American companies will be under pressure of Trump’s administration to invest more in the US (the United States of America). Under such circumstance, those companies will divert the investment back to the US. According to Head of The Investment Coordinating Board (BKPM) Thomas Lembong, some American investors have told him that they are likely to reduce their investments in this year. However, Thomas is optimistic that the vacant positions would be replaced by investors from other countries. “In terms of fundamentals, developing countries have the highest economic growth,” Thomas said.
